12 Ga Shotgun
J. Stevens Arms Co. Springfield Dble Barrel 12 Ga. Shotgun?
I have a 12 guage side by side shotgun that reads on the left of the receiver: J. Stevens Arms Company.
The next line reads: Chicopee Falls, Mass.U.S.A. Just above J. Steven Arms Co. reads: Springfield, with a lightening bolt through it. It has two triggers.
The receiver is charcoal case colored. the barrels say SELECTED FORGED STEEL and the other side says PROOF TESTED 12 GUAGE. My Dad hunted with this in the mid 60's.
Any suggestions on what year this shotgun could be; and if it may be worth anything?

Your first answer is quite informative. I would only change a couple of things. One, these guns are very high quality, regardless of whether or not there are better brands out there. Two, considering the side by sides are not that common, value should range from $250-$400 depending on condition, year of mfg., and other variables. No guess as to the year...all we know about Savage/Stevens is that they didn't put serial numbers on their guns before 1968, but I bet someone at a gun show can help you on that.
My advice: Never sell it. You will not get enough out of it to replace the sentimental value.
