30-06 Ammo For Sale
Has anyone shot a Savage 111 in either .270 or 30-06?
I've decided to buy this (instead of the Remington 710) as my first rifle because I can get it NEW for a pretty good price ($380) I searched around and can't get it any cheaper. I thought I wanted a .270, but the sales guy now has me leaning towards a 30-06 because of the versatilities of grains in the ammo. Has anyone compared the recoil of the two guns? I'm looking to use this for deer hunting in northern wisconsin. I'll be in mostly woods, with a little field shooting. I probably wont have many shots over 150 yards. Anyone have any tips on which one I should buy? Thanks.

The real difference I see in the 111 and the 110 is the detachable magazine.
I have owned several savages and have liked them all.
Don’t ever be concerned with the Savage quality for the are known for that and more.
The are one of the most affordable weapons on the market.
Now as to the recoil of the 30-06 is not that bad, I have a friend who’s son is rather small for a 13 year old and he hunts with a 30-06.
The main thing is have it firm against your shoulder and don’t try to stop the recoil, “flow with it”.
The 30-06 has a lot more bullet selection and availability then any other caliber.
There is nothing growing in Wisconsin that a 30-06 wont handle.
Wisconsin known for its fine deer hunting, and good sized deer.
I would say in either caliber you have a good combination with the savage.
I personally lean in favor of the 30-06 or 308 because of the 30 caliber bullet selection and availability and that what matters to me.
The 30-06 recoil is just a touch above the 270 it let you know it’s there but it wont hurt you.
I believe most of the people that complain about the 30-06 recoil try to stop the recoil and muzzle jump and that what get them, when I shoot my bigger guns I hold the stock firm to my shoulder and relax my body so it pushes me let the muzzle jump.
