5.11 Tactical Rifle Case
With hunting and military simulation sports like paintball becoming more popular and accessible to the public, it's no wonder that children want to get into the action as well. Hence, manufacturers have developed ghillie suits specially made for kids. A kind of camouflage clothing, ghillie suits are made to resemble foliage, allowing the user to blend into his environment. Once a tool by Scottish herdsmen for catching game or ambushing poachers, the suit has found many uses in the modern times, ranging from sports to combat.
Nowadays, children can wear kids' ghillie suits for a variety of reasons: hunting trips, bird-watching, paintball or airsoft, home movies, even as a costume for Halloween. It will only take you a few moments to find sites that feature kids' ghillie suits, but considering the varieties of suits out in the market, it's not simply a matter of picking the size and color that fits your child. Consider the following factors as well:
1.Basic camouflage - this will largely depend on your purpose for getting the suit in the first place. If you are bringing your child to a hunt, a paintball game, or anything requiring real camouflage, you will need to choose a suit that matches the terrain of that environment. Of course, for Halloween parties or other just-for-fun activities, you can get whatever you like.
2.Lightweight- the average ghillie suit can get pretty heavy, even for adults. Also, the inside of an adult ghillie suit can heat up to 120°F during use. For children, it's very important to have material that's light enough for them to stay cool and comfortable, even while running around or crawling on the ground. After all, milsim sports can get fast and furious, and you can certainly count on your kids playing their part to the hilt.
Make sure the material of their suits is light and well-ventilated so that it won't let them overheat or tire out quickly. Teratex is a good example of such material. Have your kids try on the suit to see if it's a good fit and feels comfortable.
3.Water-resistant - this is in line with the kids' ghillie suit being lightweight. When water is absorbed by the ghillie suit, it can make it significantly heavier for your child. Outdoors, you'll have to contend with rain, puddles, streams, canals, lakes, and even morning dew. A water-resistant suit protects the wearer from moisture, is easier to clean, and will keep your child from getting sick.
4.Fire-resistant - when choosing your kid's ghillie suit, find out if the manufacturer has already made it fire-resistant. Accidents can happen due to campfires, cigarettes, or even the nearby muzzle flash of a hunting rifle, so it's not unreasonable to take some precautions. In case the kids' ghillie suit you're considering is not yet fire-resistant, you will want to treat it with some fire-retardant. Some examples are Flame Stop and Fire Check.
If your suit's hand-made, you may be using flammable material like burlap or jute, not to mention plants gathered from the outdoors. For your child's safety, treat the suit with fire-retardant before the activities begin.
5.Non-allergenic - nothing will bring your child down quicker than an allergy attack in the middle of a paintball game. If you know your kid has allergic reactions to certain kinds of materials, check out the suit's label first before purchasing it. It can really save your kid's day, as well as save you money on anti-allergy medication or even a trip to the doctor.
6.Other considerations - you may find it useful to get a suit made of silent material. This can help them stay hidden longer during milsim competitions, or at least keep the suit from being too distracting outside of the game.
Lastly, having a washable kids' ghillie suit will be a boon after the fun and games are over. You can simply dump the suit in your washing machine at the end of the day and ready it for the next event.
Having a ghillie suit can be a fun experience for both you and your child. It creates a certain realism, gives them an edge in competitions, and is just really cool to wear when done right. Just keep in mind the three criteria for a good kids' ghillie suit: safety, safety, safety.
