7mm rem mag or 300 win mag?

I know you guys probably get asked this all of the time. But I would really appreciate the answers.

I'm buying a browning x bolt and I was originally going to get it in a wsm caliber but later learned that ammo is way to expensive for me too shoot it alot and I've learned the the length of the bolt pull is not that much shorter than a long action.

I've decided on the 7mm rem mag or the 300 win mag.

I will be hunting whitetail deer where shots can range out to 400 yards and I will also be hunting antelope and I'm going caribou and maybe elk in a couple years.

I also know that I would have to practice alot too take a shot a 400 yards.

so which cartridge do you think would serve my purpose best

Whitetails out to 400... I'd say a .270. Ive never seen anyone take a 400 yard shot in whitetail territory around here, most are maybe 150. Same with antelope. Really I'd look at a .243 for "big" game inside of 300. Deer and antelope are not difficult to kill by any means. Thinking you have to have a heavy mag to get out to 400, which is nothing, is like saying you need to set fire to your house to get rid of a pesky stain on the carpet.

FWIW my antelope was at about 440 this year, measured by laser not "I know my pace", and using a 30-06 with a 165gr round. Total pass-through and an easy shot for the round even though it was about 100 yards further than I usually choose to shoot at an animal. Anything .243 and above will make the same shot with a good shooter behind the trigger and will be nowhere near as punishing or expensive to practice with. And practice is way more important than caliber. It doesn't matter how big the bullet you miss with is.
