Bean Bag Shotgun Shells
What do you think the most versitile fire arm in the military is?
My vote goes to the shotgun because of its ability to complete completely different tasks just by changing the ammo. To kill enemies load it up with a 12g buck shell, To stop a riot hit a couple guys with bean bag rounds, To breach a door use slugs. To have a practical use I am not yet sure of use dragons breath rounds.
Shotgun does NOT penetrate body armor. You can load it with heavier shots, but that would decrease the range, which is already pitiful, figure 25 yards or LESS.
Furthermore, beabag rounds are NOT fired with regular shotguns, but specially modified LTL shotguns. Also, the new taser rounds are working soon.
If you want a versatile, I still say the AR-15 / M-16 platform. With a couple replacement parts you can shoot .50 caliber Beowulf rounds from it. Use a shorter barrel like M-4 for CQB, or use a longer match-grade barrel and you have a SR-25 'sniper rifle. Bazillion attachments like shotgun, grenade launcher, lights, and more.
