How would I go about buying a live British gun?

I live in the country and have only ever owned air rifles, However, I am interested in buying a second hand british ww1 or just british rifle, shotgun etc. Something like a Lee-Enfield .303 Mk.1, I would usually just look on the internet but I want to know what I would need to do before hand. I am 19 years old, I suppose you have to be 21 or older. Also, how would you go about getting a license for it? Like I said, we live in the country and we have an old shotgun cabinet and I was told that we are entitled to own a shotgun? Either way, I would use it for hunting and protecting my animals.
