Leapers Rifle Scopes Reviewed And Best Deal Locator
The leapers rifle scopes brand is one of the rifle scope worlds hidden gems. Possibly due to the cheap price (just over budget level) most hunters looking for a new rifle scope pass them by while heading towards a multi hundred £$ purchase
In this article I am going to specifically evaluate the Leapers Rifle Scopes 3-9x50 and 3-9x40 mil dot models and tell you how to get a good deal on one right after you finish reading.
Leapers Scope Review: 3-9x50 and 3-9x40 5th Gen Full Size AO RGB Mil Dot Models
If you don't understand what those numbers mean by the way then I'll briefly explain.
3-9 means the range of magnification levels the scope has. The 3 means 3x magnification and the 9 means 9 times, when termed 3-9 it means that the scope can be adjusted from 3-9x magnification, so 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x and 9x. You d this simply by hand turning a dial on the scope body to change the level of magnification.
On the Leapers 3-9x variable is nice and wide and will suit you for shooting any where from about 5 to 500 yards.
Some cheap rifles scopes with large magnification options offer less than ideal image clarify in their higher ranges due to the use of cheaper, lower grade optical lenses. In the case of the Leapers 5th Gen range this is not a concern as I explain below.
Leapers Optics Lenses
The Leapers optics lenses are well known for their high quality, ground as they are at the highest camera grade A, quality level so you know you will get excellent vision. No low grade lens vision problems at high magnification.
Very Close Range Focus
The 5th Gen scopes are also able to focus at a much closer range than most scopes, at 3x you will be able to focus on a target as close as 3 yards away (most scopes are 8+) this is very useful when trying to get a pinpoint shot on a tiny target.
The 40 and 50 part of 3-9x40 and 3-9x50 means the diameter, in millimeters, of the lens at the large end of the scope that gathers the light, this lens is called the Objective.
As a rough guide, bigger is better as the larger the lens the more light it can gather and send to your eye and the easier it is to locate and track a target. More light also means it works better in low light so you can start to hunt earlier and finish later. This may be of importance to you lots of species tend to move most at dawn and dusk.
40 or 50mm lens is considered an excellent medium to large size lens, well suited for low light use. When combined with 3-9x magnification you will get the ability to operate dawn to dusk at 3 to 500 yards.
SWAT Illumination Crosshairs
The 5th Gen allow you to light up the cross-hairs with variable intensity levels of green or red illumination. Red is handy in clarifying targets in very bright light and green is good in lower light or even in the dark if used alongside night vision kit such as hunting torches and infra red illuminators.
Parallax Adjustment
The Leapers 5th gen models come with lens operated parallax adjustment. Parallax, or rather the parallax effect, if you don't know is where, targets will often "seem" to drift or wobble against their background making locking on them very difficult.
Parallax adjustment solves this by eliminating the wobble meaning you will shoot a lot better. The Leapers scopes have settings from 5 metres upward and are easy to adjust.
Zeroing
The Leapers scopes have lock and reset windage and elevation target turrets with hex screws that allow you to lock you zero settings and reset them if you change them and want to go back. A very useful function found on very few rifle scopes at any price level.
Style
Physically, they looks the business. It's what's known as a full size scope so not one for juniors or small carbine rifles. The models are extremely well packed and presented and also include quality flip up caps to safeguard the lenses, screwin sniper sunshades, good English instructions and mil dot range cards.
How to Get a Good Deal on Leapers Rifle Scopes?
Prices are quite frankly astonishing for what you get with the 3-9x40 or 3-9x50 Leapers 5th Gen scopes. Expect to pay under £100 for a new one in the UK and a similar Dollar amount across the pond. To find a good deal shop around online. On Google these days shopping results and prices appear very prominently so you will have no trouble comparing results.
