History Of The Longbow

Is Western Civilization's History under attack?

Am I the only one who is sick of being told about how backward and evil Europe was by PC intellectuals?

I'm so sick of hearing how Western culture "stole" and "borrowed" these from other peoples. We have had some of the most brilliant intellectual discoveries and achievements in all of time. Pythagorean theorem, longbow, classical arch, Colosseum, Stonehenge(Which came before the pyramids), the first star catalog, longitude and latitude, vaccines...just to name a few. Our people were and are very sharp. Does anyone else see these people attacking our history in colleges and schools and trying to depict us as dumb brutes?

I'm not saying other cultures haven't done incredible things, nor do I mind learning about some of the great things other cultures have done, but some of the things I've heard about Western culture are flat out generalizations, racist, and ridiculous.

And is anyone tired of BCE and CE?

Good point, many times they'll find something that was invented in Europe and another place, which had no contact with Europe, invented it earlier they will say that the non-European place invented it; although truthfully both did. Western civilization borrowed the best of the Arabric numeral system, and tweaked it into it's modern form; just another situation of changing an idea into a unique form.

The alphabet, who invented it? The Irish invented their own, the Vikings invented there own, the Romans adopted Greek and Phonecian alphabets, and created there own which is used today. Europeans invented numerous alphabets which all work, and are phoenetic. To say the Sumerians invented the alphabet is to be closed minded, but so is to deny this fact.

Listen to a history lesson about colonial norht America,a nd you'll be treated to horro stories of Europeans stealing from and murdering natives. What you won't hear is the numerous times in which land was bought, or when antives initiated or aided destruction of other natives (the Iroquois all but anihilated the Huron and Illinois). You will also not hear about how misunderstandings played a negative role in indo-European relations, it is often dismissed as racism; no real attempt to understand European thinking or views. The French treated the indians well, there only blemish being the Fox wars. The Europeans did nothing to the indians that they didn't do to eachtother.

Before Common Era and Common Era

Would somone explain the rational behind that? There is no appreaciable global difference between 1 bc and 1 ad. yet they use this as a 0 for dating. I'll admit that the ad bc system might be slightly off from actual dates, I've heard 3 years, but it at least is based on a world altering event as its 0 number; like it or not western history 200 ad to the present day is a history of Christianity.

A lot of professors today are marxists, and interpret history in that style. This means that they'll always present western nations in a negative light. It is simply an example of how bias can affect the interpretation of historical evidence.
