Remington 700 SPS .308 accuracy, recoil, cost?

i decided to purchase a .308 rifle, mostly for target but some hunting, and i like the remington 700 sps. How much would this cost from a gun store? anyone who has this, what kind of out of the box groups do you get at 100 yards? 200? and how is the recoil if it comes with that recoil pad? compared to a remington 870 12 gauge shooting standard slugs or target shells? any recommendations on scopes, bipods, ammo would be great.

Remington 700 SPS --- Excellent choice.... The best reason you could have to own this rifle is the cost of ammunition... .308 can be had in bulk at really decent prices... That is the main reason I prefer it over the 30/06...... The 30/06 is a fine cartridge with a slightly better performance characteristics over the .308 but not at $17 a box on up to $70 a box.... Over a period of time especialy if you target practice a lot the .308 will save you a fortune in ammunition costs.... ----------- Recoil? Its got a little kick - not bad, definitely not as much as a 12 gauge 3 inch cartridge. If your a regular size guy the recoil is not a big deal.... Depending on the ammo it has less kick than a 12 gauge 2 3/4 inch trap load........ Out of the box groupings? That depends on you.... I can get 2 inch groups using bulk brass FMJ at 100 yards.... This gun will do better but I have never tried...... My target shooting consists of hitting an 8 inch target at 300 yards which this gun does well - I dont compete and am happy with the 300 yard plate shooting....... I have never tried to do better but this gun is very capable of getting tight groups at long distances...... SEE THE BELOW .308 cartridge guide...
