Anybody got any tips for?

Hunting for sheds up in Colorado?

I was up in a really nice spot of private land last fall hunting for whitetails.
I got a really nice 8 point but there was a much bigger whitetail on that property I wasn't lucky enough to get.

I want to go up and start looking for sheds to see if I can't find out how big he was or if he's gonna be bigger next year.
I never got close enough to count his points but I know he was massive.

I have never been hunting for sheds before and I want to know whats the best way to go about it.
Is there any specific places wehre they shed, like maybe they rub their horns up against a tree to get them to come off and I should look for that?

Also what's the best time of year?
I heard end of febuary early march was best.

Also how can I tell if he's gonna be bigger next year?

any other tips you would like to share would be great!
Thanks!

oh and any other pre-season scouting tips would be nice too

Look around places where they would have to jump also, they seem to get knocked loose when the deer land. I've found quite a few along fences and creeks. If it's legal, and if you have a good idea where this particular buck is hanging out, you could try putting some corn in a 5 gallon bucket, then driving 4 metal fence posts into the ground around the bucket. When he comes to feed from the bucket, his antlers will catch on the posts and fall off, at least in theory. It's kind of late here in CA for that, as all the deer have already lost their antlers, I don't know about Colorado.
