Western Show clothes Requirements?

im going to be showing in western and i need to know the requirements of what i need to get. im trying to keep it to what a minimally need. i know for english/hunt the requirements are beige or khaki breeches, tall boots, a show shirt, show coat, etc. can anyone tell me exactly what i need to buy? like what type of boots, pants, tops, etc.

The basic requirement is simple for most shows: Boots, long pants, belt, button-up/long-sleeved/collared shirt, and hat.

However, if you show up at an AQHA show with that "minimum" requirement, you're going to look very out of place. You should be wearing matching boots, chaps, and pants (under the chaps) with a shirt that is of current style, well-fitted, and flattering. Your hat should be correctly shaped and complement the rest of your outfit.

Then again, if you show something like barrel racing or reining, your outfit will be different than if you show Western Pleasure or Horsemanship (assuming you're going for more than that "minimum").

At small, open shows, the basic requirement is still the same, but you'd have to go check the show itself to see what people normally wear. At the open shows I do, some riders go full out (just as at an AQHA show); others opt for jeans, boots, hat, and a button up. I often stick with the casual for those shows, but I wouldn't dare go to an AQHA show without my chaps and show shirt.

Ebay is a great place to find inexpensive show clothes (used is often a good choice). Hobby Horse is fairly inexpensive and carries current styles; your only problem will be that other people will have the same outfit and you won't be as unique. There are plenty of upscale retailers as well as custom shops that do nice show clothing as well, but you'll be spending upwards of $1000 per outfit.

What kind of show are you doing? I'd check the rules to make sure you meet minimum requirements and then go watch a show with that association/club (if possible--if not, try talking to some people who have shown there before) to see what the standard is. That way, you'll be comfortable and not over- or underdressed.
