Used 243 Rifles
Good all round rifle and caliber for hunting and target? .223, .243, .270 or 30-06?
I know asking this question is like asking the population if chocolate or strawberry ice-cream is better, and each caliber and rifle has its unique strengths. However, some opinions would be helpful. I'm looking to move up from my .22 and I'm not sure what to look for. I'm trying to aim for a nice quality rifle but I'm not really a gun nut so I'm not familiar with all the brands. The rifle would mostly be used for target and deer hunting but also MIGHT (only as a last resort) be used in the form of defence from bears. I was looking at a rifle with a .243 caliber or a .270 caliber but I'm not sure where to start looking. Any help of where to start off?
If you want a rifle for deer and target look into a .308. It is enough for deer but is more accurate than a 30-06

The 30-06 and 270 are both great hunting rounds. The 308 has more inherent accuracy than either one, therefore it would give you an advantage for target shooting and work equally well for hunting.
