Does anyone know a good rifle scope match for Steyr Scout in .223 ?

I have just purchased a Mannlicher Steyr Scout in .223 rem. I am looking for a good quality rifle scope to match for hunting smaller varmints at longer ranges. I would prefer a lower-end Nikon or Zeiss over a Leupold this time (I already have two Leupolds on my other rifles). I need something with a little more light transmission than Leupold can offer. Naturally I want a rugged dependable scope with some level of water resistance. My budget is $400USD. I might stretch this to $500USD for the right scope. I will be mounting the scope in the traditional manner (not like the Jeff Cooper Steyr). Please include zoom and objective sizes most suited to this rifle and hunting requirements.

like in most thgings people will say their suggestion is best.one thing to keep in mind is that cheap glass will not last or do well.i just bout a scope but it cost $1039.the best cheaper scope is the leupold.they have 2 different styles.one is reall cheap and the other can at times will cost a great deal.get one with a big enough objective that it will give you enough lite at all times.a good affordable scope with a life time warrany is the leupold.get something like a 3x9x40.that is a pretty srabdard size.if you have alot of timber or thing that create alot shadow areas then get the 3x9x50. they have a var.1,11,111.the larger the number the more they costthe var.1 is just as good as the others and you can get it for around $225 and cheaper.there is a company that sells used,demo, and new scopes. you can get some great deals on a used or demo. they still have the lifetime warranty/ go to www.swfa.com.click on the sample list. thay are the worlds largest scope dealer.you can trade a old one in on a another one.if you need more help finding this place then just email me.
